Sunderland Football Gift: ‘Borini’s late dramatic goal against Newcastle Utd in the English Premier League 2013’ Limited Edition Framed Football Print.
Sunderland pulled off a miracle in the 2013/2014 season. Against all the odds, Poyet and his team did the impossible. They stayed up in the Premiership despite being bottom at Christmas. We don’t think any other side has ever managed that feat before?
This game was one of those special SAFC occasions of their turbulent, but joyful season.
Played against a background of swirling wind and driving rain, super sub Fabio Borini’s dramatic late thunderbolt helped Sunderland beat Newcastle, and secure their first win of the season, lifting them off the bottom of the Premier League table.
The home side took the lead when striker Steven Fletcher headed in Adam Johnson’s delightfully floated cross after just five minutes.
The Stadium of Light erupted.
New manager Gus Poyet was in dreamland, but it was shortlived.
Johnson let Debuchy run in and poke in the equaliser from close range following Ben Arfa’s effort across goal.
But with just minutes left, substitute Borini thumped in a 25-yard strike beyond the flailing keeper for the winner!
Wow, what a goal. What a moment!
