Liverpool Football Gift: ‘Gerrard goal against Olympiakos’ Limited Edition Print of 50
When Rivaldo scored for Olympiakos from a free kick, Liverpool needed three goals to reach the next round of the 2004 Champions League.
At half time, the Liverpool coach Rafael Benitez brought on Pongolle. It was inspired.
On 47 minutes, Florent Sinama Pongolle converted Harry Kewell’s cross. Could this be one of the greatest comebacks seen at Anfield..?
In the 78th minute, Benitez had seen enough. He needed to make a decision. A big decision.
Neil Mellor was given the nod (This was the guy that burst into limelight against Arsenal at Anfield 10 days earlier. Level at 1–1 with 90 minutes gone, he cracked in a thunderous 30-yard volley to win the game for Liverpool).
Mellor stepped off the bench with just 9 minutes remaining and made an instant impact, stabbing the ball in from six yards!
Anfield was buzzing, Gerrard was pumped. And Benitez remained as cool as ever (on the outside anyway).
And with just 4 pulsating, agonising minutes left, Mellor laid back the ball into the path of Gerrard. With one thought on his mind, Gerrard smashed the ball from 25 yards passed the despairing dive of Nikopoldis into the back of the net!
Cue hysteria. What a beauty! Just like this Limited Edition artwork.
Only 50 available of this Gerrard goal v Olympiakos. And each one is individually printed and hand numbered.
We make a donation to the Hillsborough Family Support Group (HFSG) for every print sold. It’s our small way of contributing to their dedicated hard work, to help bring justice for the 96. Forever in our thoughts.
