England Football Gift: ‘Michael Owen Wonder Goal For England v Argentina’ Limited Edition Print (only 50 produced!).
Cast your mind back to the 1998 World Cup second round match in Saint-Étienne, France.
England’s match against Argentina proved to be the most dramatic and enthralling game of the second round…if not the entire tournament.
It had everything. Great goals, dirty tactics, a sending off, controversy, extra time and the dreaded penalty shoot out.
But what a goal from one particular cheeky chappy teenager. No England fan can ever forget the way 18 year old Michael Owen took Beckham’s slightly high pass into his stride with the outside of his foot and then embarked on that majestic run through Argentina’s defence.
Owen’s speed terrified defences of all calibre. But it was particularly satisfying to see the Argentinian defenders left for dead on the world stage. I guess that’s the beauty of being an 18 year old in a big game. No fear, just raw talent and a hunger to show what can be achieved in an England shirt.
It’s no doubt amongst the most dramatic announcements of a new young talent’s arrival as we’d seen since Pele’s goals in the 1958 World Cup Final. It had everything, pace, control, balance, and a cool finish. It was just a shame that the match was decided on the England jinxed penalty shootout.
That last bit has a familiar ring to it, but this design is completely unique and exclusive.
Just 50 available of this Michael Owen goal v Argentina. And each one is individually printed and numbered.
